A Paris Apartment by Michelle Gable is a great book to stash in your travel bag this summer. This book intertwines a story of two fascinating women. The first story introduces April Vogt, a modern day Sotheby’s Auctioneer, traveling to Paris to estimate the value of a mysterious apartment that has been locked for seventy years, all the while avoiding her marriage that’s in turmoil.
The other story takes us back to courtesan Paris to meet Marthe de Florian, where the true story of this amazing apartment unfolds. This book has it all, romance, historical fiction, and the beauties and wonders of Paris. Don’t miss out on a good read this summer!
Let’s talk about facial hair. Ok ladies, all that peach fuzz on your face can be removed – this includes the hair on your upper lip. And no, it will not grow in thicker. That is a myth. What will happen though is your makeup will go on smoother and look better and the biggest reason- NO hairy face!
How often do you see a stray hair on a friend and don’t even tell her?? Shame on you! No one wants a long stray hair hanging off their frickin’ face. Seriously – tell your friend! It’s different if it’s a stranger. Just do them a favor and share this blog with them, so they have this awesome information too 🙂
There are other ways to rid your face of hair such as waxing, Dermaplane, or depilatory cream (Nair for example). These are not my favorite methods. Waxing can be hard on your skin, dermaplaning is expensive, and depilatory creams are harsh chemicals.
In some severe cases, hormones may lead to crazy hair growth on some women. In this case laser hair removal may be in order.
This Panasonic trimmer gadget can really be helpful. There are many brands, that all work relatively the same. Here is an example of one that I like – so you have an idea what to look for.
Last week,on a search for recipes with maca powder, I found this “Hormone Balancing Almond, Maca & Cinnamon Smoothie” on Pinterest posted by Wallflower Kitchen. I made it and am excited to share it! I feel like my hormones were out of whack so I thought what the heck – why not try it? It was delish! I loved it! I decided I would have one a day for a week to really see if it evens out my moods. Ingredients shown below:
Wait, what is Maca? Maca powder is a superfood that originates in the Peruvian Andes and grows at altitudes starting at 11,000 ft. in harsh conditions. Maca is a plant from the cruciferous family (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, etc. ).
Maca has been used for centuries to help increase energy, balance hormones, help with menopause symptoms, improve sexual function, and reduce anxiety and depression. If this is true, than this is a serious superfood for women!
Does this really work? I turned to Authority Nutrition, an unbiased and independent website that provides articles about nutrition, weight loss and health based on scientific evidence. In their article, “9 Benefits of Maca Root (and potential side effects)” , they concur that among other benefits, “Maca increases libido in men and women, may help relieve symptoms of menopause, reduces depression and anxiety, and may boost sports performance and energy”.
Where can you buy Maca? If going to the Andes isn’t in your travel plans, you can find maca as a powder form or as a supplement. I bought it at The Vitamin Shoppe, but it is available at Amazon and at other retailers as well.
Flash forward to today – I am still in love with this smoothie! It tastes so good. I haven’t noticed any changes in my hormones just yet, but I’m also not sure if a week is enough time to truly tell a difference. In any case, I highly recommend this smoothie for flavor alone. To me, it tastes like a vanilla malt – but Wallflower Kitchen describes it as a “sweet cookie flavor”. I think the final flavor will depend on the type of protein power you use, so use your favorite and you’ll be happy.
The benefits of the smoothie are that it’s high in protein, low in sugar, vegan, gluten-free, and paleo. You could even lessen the sugar by using 1 date rather than 2 if you really wanted to.
This morning I changed it up a bit and added avocado to this smoothie. I felt it really made it smooth and still tasted like a malt. Did I mention I love malts?
This lip stain has staying power but not so much that I have to basically rip my lips off to get it off! It’s not drying like most either. There are different colors available and a multi-pack which is great for determining the color(s) that is right for you. Cool package, cool product, and cool colors. What more can I say?
Here are two ways you can wear the lip stain:
Achieve the gradient look: There are a lot of great YouTube videos that show you how to achieve this gradient look using concealer, lip stain, and lip gloss (in some cases). Here’s the one we found most straight-forward and uses the least amount of products:
On our drive to Michigan, we started listening to the podcast S-Town from Serial and This American Life. If you haven’t listened to a podcast yet – this is the one for you. (If you have already listened to Serial, what are you waiting for?)
The podcast is a seven part series narrated by Brian Reed, the host of S-Town who is investigating a possible murder that John B. McLemore claims happened in his small hometown of Woodstock, Alabama, which he has renamed S-Town (the “S” stands for “shit”).
Without giving too much away, this compelling series turns into so much more than a murder, as you begin to learn more about the complex main character known by most as “John B.” Don’t rush too quickly to judgement on John B, like we did (shame on us). There is so much more to him than one could ever imagine by just hearing his voice. With each episode, we learn a new facet of this complicated man’s life. And in turn, we start to understand some of his decisions that affect his life and the lives of so many people surrounding him.
It’s a good reminder to not judge a person because you can’t possibly understand their life unless you’ve lived it.
We can’t say enough about this podcast and highly recommend that you listen to it! This true story was twisted and riveting. We think it would make an amazing movie too! Calling Hollywood?
