Bulletproof coffee, was created by technology entrepreneur, biohacker, and New York Times bestselling author of the Bulletproof Diet, Dave Asprey. In a quest to find the simplest things you can do to be better at everything, Asprey created Bulletproof coffee.
In short, Asprey claims in his blog that Bulletproof coffee provides “supressed hunger”, “steady lasting energy”, and “mental clarity”. For more information details and benefits of Bulletproof Coffee visit his website www.bulletproof.com or make your own version following Ashlee’s recipe below:
Make-Your-Own Bulletproof Coffee:
The idea behind this coffee is that it works on the basis of burning fat as fuel. It keeps you full and replaces a meal. I use it in the morning before a workout and have lots of energy and usually don’t need to eat till lunch.
Why grass fed butter? It’s an anti-inflammatory energy source. It contains vitamin A and does not raise cholesterol. Make sure you get organic!
Why the oils? Coconut oil boosts metabolism and MCT oil (harder to find) has the best fat burning benefits as well as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
1-2 cups – coffee your choice
1 teaspoon – coconut oil or MCT oil or grass fed butter
1/4 teaspoon – turmeric
dash of cayenne
1/2 teaspoon – raw cacao
1/2 teaspoon – collagen (see image below)
1/4 teaspoon – nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon – cardamon
1/2 teaspoon honey or coconut sugar
If this sounds like a ton of ingredients… well… it is! BUT you probably have most of these I’m sure. If you don’t – go get ’em! I suggest you make a large batch of all the dry ingredients. Make enough to last you a couple weeks. I recommending multiplying everything dry by 14 or so.
Here’s the collagen I use. It can be used in everything you would use for protein powder, has no flavor, and dissolves in hot or cold liquid.
Then each morning make your coffee and add your oil or grass fed butter (unsalted) and about a tablespoon of your dry ingredients. You can place these in a blender or I use this hand held battery operated latte whipper. Just whip the heck out of it. It will get frothy and delicious!
**DO NOT add any type of milks even the non-dairy kind. This negates the fat for fuel effect.
