With the second death of the corona virus in the U.S. it’s time to get serious about boosting our immunity. This smoothie has 5 essential ingredients that will boost your immunity naturally.
The first ingredient that will help boost your immunity is kiwi. “Kiwis are naturally full of a ton of essential nutrients, including folate, potassium, Vitamin K and Vitamin C. Vitamin C boosts white blood cells to fight infection, while kiwi’s other nutrients keep the rest of your body functioning properly.” (Healthline). And, if you want to really amp it up – keep the skin on. Yes, I said that correctly! The kiwi skin contains fiber, Vitamin E (another immunity boosting vitamin) and folate. It also has twice as much Vitamin C as the fruit itself.(Women’s Health Magazine ).
Next ingredient for strengthening your immune system is kale. Kale has plenty of beta-carotene (Vitamin A), an antioxidant which boosts your immunity. The less you cook kale the better, so it’s perfect in a smoothie.
Almond milk is another ingredient that will help boost immunity. Almonds contain Vitamin E which is another powerful antioxidant that helps the body fight infections.
Strawberries, not only add sweetness to your smoothie, but they also contain antioxidants and Vitamin C. At this time of year, you will find the freshest, organic strawberries in the freezer section. Again, perfect for smoothies.
Flaxseed is another great ingredient to throw in your smoothie to help support your immune system. See why here.
Lastly, don’t forget your bananas. While adding a great flavor to this smoothie, bananas have a high level of B-6, which aids in boosting immunity. Not only that, bananas contain potassium which is an essential nutrient for keeping your body functioning properly.
1/2 cup almond milk (unsweetened)
1 cup kale
1/2 banana
1 cup strawberries
1 kiwi – only remove the skin from the ends
1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
Mix the kale and water first to get a great consistency. Then add remaining ingredients and mix. I just gave this to my teens this morning and they loved it!
